Recently I accidentally went to a short promotional Microsoft presentation (non-US) about OOXML for work...I came away from that presentation with the impression that Microsoft as a company, and especially at the executive level, doesn't actually have a clear understanding of what an Open Standard is.

Microsoft is losing its grip on office productivity software
If Microsoft believes that their Office products will continue to be a cash cow as they have been in the past and that they can control the office productivity software market with their own "defacto standards" as they have done for the last decade or more, I think they're in for a shock.
