When I have a few spare time or just want to loosen up a bit, I always indulge myself into playing some computer games. Since most of my extra time is very limited, I usually pick those that are less stressful and less time consuming. I go for the old-fashioned and graphics card-friendly puzzle and arcade games.

Linux has games. I'm not just talking about solitaire, chess and mines; I'm talking about the dozens of great 3D first person shooters, puzzle games, role-playing games, community games, simulators, and more.

There are literally thousands of games that can be played on Linux, if you're a casual gamer or hardcore Linux fan who is looking to have a bit of fun on your favourite distro, there's plenty of games to choose from.

Reviewing a batch of free Linux games the other day, I stumbled upon Enigma, which immediately got my attention because of its simple rules, yet addictive game style. I found Enigma to be a great game, despite the fact that I’m not much into puzzle games.

Linux enjoys a very large software library of games, the vast majority of which can be downloaded without any payment. Helping to identify great games is made difficult by the fact that to a large extent games are a matter of taste. Furthermore, some players prefer games of tactics, others enjoy the communication with fellow gamers.

I am not a serious gamer at all. If you want to see me totally disoriented, play an FPS game in front of me. But then there are always these silly games for people like me. Here is a quick list of my favorite time wasters or puzzle games or whatever you call it.

At one time, asking if Linux could play games elicited laughter and disappointment. Games were basic and lacked the graphics and game play that Windows offered. However this is starting to change and dozens of high quality games have been released to run on Linux platforms.

I wanted to take a few minutes and share a couple of games that I enjoy quite often. I've never been one for the shoot-em-up games, rather I prefer games that put my brain to work solving problems. There are many "brain games" available for Linux, but I would like to let you know about two games that I use to feed my puzzling addiction.
