I bumped into gotProject a couple of days ago and find the concept very intriguing. Put simply, this web service binds the different aspects of research into one simple interface. It allows users to save links, search google, take notes, work with friends, and publish their projects through an ajax interface.

This is a review of three of the most popular notes-taking applications for Linux: BasKet, Tomboy and KNotes. I included the screenshots below the reviews, at the end of the article.

BasKet
In my opinion, this is the most powerful and beautiful notes application I've ever seen. The last stable version is 1.0.3.1 for KDE3, but a port is in the works for KDE4 too.

KeepNote is a note taking application that works on Windows, Linux, and MacOS X. With KeepNote, you can store your class notes, TODO lists, research notes, journal entries, paper outlines, etc in a simple notebook hierarchy with rich-text formatting, images, and more. Using full-text search, you can retrieve any note for later reference.

OpenOffice 3.0 includes some great new features and among them is the upgraded notes system in OpenOfficeWriter 3.0. The notes are easy to add, customize, delete and navigate through.
