Wow!

Once again kubuntu-de.org interviewed a developer. This time we talked with Jonathan (JontheEchidna) Thomas. The Kubuntu developer and Ninja reported about the development cycle of Kubuntu "Jaunty Jackalope", which has been released today. Further he gave a little insight on "Karmic Koala", the future release of Kubuntu, which is announced for this year's october.

A few weeks back the girl I have been dating for awhile now had idly made a complaint about her laptop being poky at certain tasks. I like this girl a lot and figured it was time to take that next step in our relationship: I offered to put Linux on her laptop.

Now it’s time to discuss one of the most mysterious and confusing parts of Linux to a Windows user: the command line. To most Windows users the prospect of typing in what you want your computer to do is completely foreign and thus intimidating.

I do enjoy the Kubuntu development cycle. Just as I’m starting to feel that my stable, long-configured system is starting to get a little blase, the new version is just around the corner. I eagerly upgraded to Kubuntu Gutsy when it was released on my faithful Vaio TX.

Okay, it has been a few months since I have set my 83-year old grandmother with a desktop PC running Kubuntu 7.10. Just to recap, she has never used a PC before. She doesn't know Windows or Mac or Linux. It was the first time she used a mouse, though she is a touch-typist. I configured everything in advance. I removed everything that I thought would be distracting or not used.

I thought I would finally take the time to promote and show off some of the changes I have been making to the Kubuntu installer, Ubiquity.
