Chrome OS is Google's proof-of-concept for a future where everything - both data and the programs and services that manipulate them - will live on the wide web. I don’t personally find it a very appealing path either, and the things I’ll be talking about below will probably explain why.

What is ChromeOS. Really.
All this fuss about Google ChromeOS. Is it a threat to Microsoft ? Is it a threat to the Ubuntu? (funny nobody wonders if that’s a threat to Apple, especially considering everything is a threat to Apple, even being able to take DRM free songs *out* of the freaking iPod)

Some people may see Google's Chrome operating system as competing with existing Linux desktop distributions. Canonical, the company behind popular Linux distribution Ubuntu, isn't one of them. They're working with Google to make Chrome.

You've got to hand it to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer: The man's never afraid to speak his mind. He may be wrong a lot of the time, like in 2007 when he laughed off the iPhone, or defended Vista before an irate user. Nevertheless, Redmond's bombastic boss is always entertaining.

One thing that both Google and Apple share is that almost the instant that they announce a new product, the public loves it. That's partly because they tend to deliver winning products, but they don't always do so.
