Now there is also a new kid in town called Linux, and although it has been around in one form or another since 1991, it's now starting to attract the attention of disenchanted Windows users.
What makes Linux special is that it runs on any Windows PC and it is Open Source software. This basically means it can be downloaded for free from the internet (www.linux.org).

Kellen Hage typically uses a three-year-old Averatec Inc. laptop to browse the Web and send instant messages. But the laptop's Microsoft Corp. Windows software has too many hard-to-find features, making it cumbersome for Kellen.

Socialist Party Netherlands wants to abolish Windows monopoly
Arda Gerkens, member of the Socialist Party in the Dutch government, wants people to be able to choose their operating system. Now people barely have that freedom and if you want to remove Windows, you can do so, but you loose the money you paid for Windows.

The end of Windows, or a security expert gives up
Security expert Bruce Schneier today wrote about the “Storm Worm” again. Go and read it and become very afraid if you are running the Windows operating system. Become even more afraid if you are responsible for a bunch of them, like in a company. And then get a clue and morph them all into something better, like installing any of the Linux/Unix/BSD variants.

Acer to Refund Junkware cost - Court Ruling
French court rules- refund of a total that:
Acer was forced to pay back was made up of 135.20 euros for Windows XP Home, 60 euros for Microsoft Works, 40.99 euros for PowerDVD, 38.66 euros for Norton Antivirus and 37 euros for NTI CD Maker. On top of that Acer had to pay a further 650 euros in, among other things, legal costs.

Windows should not come pre-installed on computers
Computers in the European Union should be sold without a bundled operating system, according to this submission to the European Commission. It says that the bundling of Microsoft Windows with computers is not in the public interest, and prevents meaningful competition in the operating system market.

Does antivirus have a future? A nice perspective.
A nice perspective on security threats- past present and maybe, future. Mostly for those poor wretched Windows users of course. Keep it in mind when you are telling them how good it is to have Linux to use!
