Another Day Another Distro - Part 6 - Slackware 12

http://adventuresinopensource.blogspot.com

After my positive experience of Debian it was time to move on and this time I chose Slackware 12 to try out. I didn't know anything about Slackware going into it and I certainly didn't know what I was getting myself into, "fools rush in" as they say. I certainly did. Slackware was an effort to say the least, I spent a couple of days with it. So, here's what happened on my Slackware adventure...

Kubuntu 7.10 in the eyes of a full-time geek

http://fridge.ubuntu.com

I do enjoy the Kubuntu development cycle. Just as I’m starting to feel that my stable, long-configured system is starting to get a little blase, the new version is just around the corner. I eagerly upgraded to Kubuntu Gutsy when it was released on my faithful Vaio TX.

Torus-trooper: a shoot-’em-up in a tunnel

http://debaday.debian.net

Torus-trooper is a pretty nice abstract shoot-’em-up taking place in what could be called a space tunnel. You drive some kind of ship or car who has to stay on the sides of the tunnel, and shoot bad enemies. This game is pretty neat and original in several ways...

7 Firefox extensions (add-ons) I can’t live without

http://alternativenayk.wordpress.com

One of the pains of installing so many distros is configuring Firefox exactly as I would want it; especially this means loading the right extensions (add-ons). Seriously, there are some firefox extensions (add-ons) that I can’t live without and the following is the list that I need. It’s personal (of course), suited only to my need, so this list is not normative for anyone.

Another Day Another Distro – Part 3 – Mandriva One 2008

http://adventuresinopensource.blogspot.com

After a slight delay here is the third instalment of my Linux tour. On Wednesday of this week I wiped openSUSE off my machine and decided to try Mandriva 2008 next. I used to Mandrake a lot a few years back before it became Mandriva and even paid to join their Club but never felt like I got value for my money.

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon: Critical review

http://polishlinux.org

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon has been released today. I haven’t tested any alpha or beta versions of the new product from Canonical. I have decided to wait for the Release Candidate, since this has proved to work for me in the past. In short: it did not disappoint me. The new Ubuntu is more polished, more professional and in general, better than the previous one, which was already a great OS.

Free Games for Linux

http://www2.linuxjournal.com

Month in Vista vs Month in Ubuntu Linux

http://cxle.blogspot.com

When I started at the new job in August, they gave me a pretty powerful laptop and since the company I work for is 100% windows, I decided to give Vista a shot. I've been using it exclusively for about 1.5 months, from the beginning of August to the mid-September, every day, 40 hours a week. I also installed Ubuntu at that time.

Open Source Gaming Review: Frozen Bubble

http://www.raiden.net

Frozen Bubble is a pop-cap style game that puts the user into a world of colored balls, ice and penguins. While that might sound a bit silly, that's the whole point. The game works on the same principle as several very popular pop-cap style games such as "Dinosaur Eggs" and even the classic game "Puzzle Bobble" that started it all.
