I've been hearing an ever increasing cry for Linux standardization over the past couple of months, with Googles most recent cry being the loudest. And yet we still hear the same tired old mantra from Linux geeks galore that says “Standardization will kill what Linux is and what it stands for.”

Who are linsux.org and what do they want?
I just saw a submission in our upcoming queue from the linsux.org site which links to a forum in which one of the linsux.org members - among other things - encourages other members and readers of linsux.org to join the FSDaily community in order to vote down all stories from Boycott Novell.

I just saw a submission in our upcoming queue from the linsux.org site which links to a forum in which one of the linsux.org members - among other things - encourages other members and readers of linsux.org to join the FSDaily community in order to vote down all stories from Boycott Novell. Linux.com Still Unhelpful for New Users
Linux.com, which was taken over recently by the Linux Foundation and received a major overhaul, has gone live. Time To Change: Why DHH should bring Rails closer to the GNU Project and relicense it under the GPL
"The problem with the Ruby on Rails community isn’t simply sexism, unprofessionalism, or ghetto-ism, but that Rails is, at its core, a culture which values individual ego more than community..." -- N.B: Rinari: Ruby on Rails Minor Mode for Emacs

Why you should refer to version of Ubuntu by their code name online
A while ago a movement was started to convince people to refer to version of Ubuntu by their release name, not the code name. The logic is simple. The version name refers to the year and month that it was released, and paints a better picture of which version you are refering to.

Video Drivers Are All That Is Holding Linux Back
The title statement is one that became immediately clear with the unsuccessful installation of Windows 7 Release Candidate on a machine of mine that has perfectly serviceable video with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and many versions of Linux.

State of the GNU/Linux Desktop 2009 Part 2/4: Hardware Support
As mentioned in part one of this series, despite the legendary pace of development in the Open Source community, it can be difficult to keep tabs on what is being worked on. Arguably, multimedia is just a subdivision of hardware support, another area where Free operating systems have suffered.
