So I use Linux for most aspects of my tech life. I only run Windows at school or work but nearly 99% of the time I am running Linux...So how about you? What do you run Linux, or BSD (that means you Mac guys), on?

Building a Community Around Your F/OSS Project
It is not uncommon to read about projects that are suffering from lack of development resources. Let's be honest: no project has 'enough' people, ever. There's always something else that could be getting done 'if only we had another pair of hands!' Some projects suffer more than others, however.

Open Source In Obama's Tech Agenda
Much noise has been made in the past week or so about President-elect Barack Obama's creation of a governmental chief tech officer position. My question is: What will be their stance on open source? Will they lean towards it, mandate it, forbid it ... or ignore it entirely? I looked into it, and came away feeling we had much bigger problems looming.

Magellan - Amarok 2.0.1.1 released (including security fix)
Welcome back a few well known and loved features from the Amarok 1.4 series: queuing, playlist search and filtering as well as "stop after current track". And, long awaited and finally available: sorting the collection by composer. We of course also worked on other features and extended the Scriptable Service API to allow smoother integration of service scripts. The LibriVox service script has received some love and comes with new icons amongst other improvements. Media device handling has also seen many improvements: MTP devices can now delete multiple tracks at once, and the status bar gives visual feedback when deleting tracks from iPods. Our OS X users will certainly like the built in Growl notification support.

Migrating and/or backing up your email (IMAP) account
Migrating email can be a burden, and if you know enough about the process it isn't like working with a normal file structure. You need to also capture the message flags (seen, unseen, dates, etc.) and to do this you need a better tool than "tar" or "rsync". This Perl script is very handy for taking some of the pain out of a small or large email (IMAP) migration.

Reading from Serial Ports in Python
What once was the primary method of inter-hardware communication, the serial port now seems to be considered more of a legacy form of communication as more applications are networked. However, I don't think I am the only one that still has the need to interface equipment or applications that only talk through the serial port.
