Ventures in upgrading (k)Ubuntu: Fix DVD Playback and Locale Issues in (k)Ubuntu 8.04

http://www.mutaku.com

We have been using kUbuntu for about 3 years now and have always been slow to upgrade to newer versions, fearing the impending bug, broken configuration with hardware, or grub issues. So when 8.04 rolled out, having been using a 'fairly' stable 7.10, we were quite hesitant to change.

Kubuntu 8.10 'Intrepid Ibex' Beta Screenshots Tour

http://tuxarena.blogspot.com

I took these screenshots using a Kubuntu Intrepid Beta installation after performing a full dist-upgrade, at 1280x1024, with the nVIDIA 173 driver installed. I left all the settings in applications default, but I had to make fonts smaller and resize windows (in Konqueror for example), because they didn't look very well as default. The default theme used is Oxygen.

Ubuntu breathes new life into school's abandoned hardware

http://www.computerworld.com.au

When 3Ghz dual core computers running 2GB of RAM weren't being used for many heavily CPU-intensive applications in a Victorian secondary school library, the school's IT department initially joked about replacing them with older and previously abandoned hardware. Then it saw the serious side.

10 billion flies and no Kubuntu

http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com

Since the drought broke last year, it’s mostly been too rainy and cloudy for the modest solar installation to keep my laptop charged, so, more of my evenings have been spent drinking plonk with a neighbour, from further down the track, than mastering the command line and working towards my LPI certification as I’d planned to do. The results of all this are that the neighbour is now developing a belated interest in computers and we are now looking for a cheap computer to get him set up with Kubuntu.

Will The Canoniclique Finally Listen To Kubuntu?

http://menpro.blogspot.com

One of my first tasks on Brainstorm was to query for "KDE" and "Kubuntu" ideas, but I found only one: Idea #478 - Support kubuntu and kde the way you support ubuntu and gnome. Fine. It's about as well-expressed an idea as I could have hoped for, and a good candidate for merging the duplicate questions into. But what's been interesting is watching the early resistance from GNOME users, not so much in the comments, but in the bouncing score.

Ubuntu vs. PCLinuxOS: a new winner?

http://koplowicz.com

I’ve been using Ubuntu (or a derivative) for two years now. But then I noticed the new cool kid: PCLinuxOS. It naturally runs KDE, as opposed to being a derivative like Kubuntu. But then I started to notice PCLOS falls short in some areas where Kubuntu shines. So how does it all break down?
