Kerala Marxists see red as 'free' software drive goes out of control
FREE SOFTWARE activists fear that the Marxists are trying to hijack their movement in Kerala.
The CPM- led state government recently sacked two proponents of the movement, who had formulated the state's information technology policy based on free software. This follows attempts by the CPM to form networks in Chennai and Bangalore in the name of free software, but strictly under party control.

Free And Open Source Software(ICFOSS), also getting marching orders,
free software exponents in the state suspect the entry of a dreaded

Kerala: IT policy says Free Software, but everywhere its still proprietary
Kerala IT policy envisions an inclusive knowledge society, but it still remains just words. There is no effort to implement the policy in any of the initiatives the government is taking. The recent incident is the tax filing application which mandates use of Microsoft Excel fomat for tax filings and the macro does not work with Free Software replacements like Open Office Calc.
