GoboLinux is a Linux distribution I heard about from a friend who said that it looked interesting for its flagship property - a simpler file structure. I decided to check it out. I downloaded the distribution ISO from their website, which was easy enough, and booted up VirtualBox with that ISO mounted as a drive.

This year at GCDS I had the pleasure of meeting a relatively small team of around 15 developers who are sponsored by the Turkish government work on a Turkish Linux distribution called Pardus.

We reviewed the June 2009 release v.4.2 of Puppy Linux, which comes in a 110 MB file download from their website, or from accepted mirrors. The iso file is then burnt to CD and runs as a Live CD.

I’m a big fan of Arch. It’s the Swiss army knife of Linux distributions, with the possibility to install as little or as much as you want. However, I’m also a fan of Ubuntu and when I install Linux on the PC of a friend who wants to try it, that’s the distribution I’ll use.

Give a man Ubuntu, and he'll learn Ubuntu. Give a man SUSE, and he'll learn SUSE. But give a man Slackware, and he'll learn Linux.

But there's another version of Ubuntu...a dark and evil one. A version so hideous and so terrible that it's name is only spoken in whispers among Linux users...

Fedora lives and breathes the 4 Fs: Freedom, Friends, Features, First. They have a very good rendering of these core principals at the Fedora Project Website, but my experiences are a bit more personal.
