CUPS Purchased by Apple Inc.

In February of 2007, Apple Inc. acquired ownership the CUPS source code and hired me (Michael R Sweet), the creator of CUPS. CUPS will still be released under the existing GPL2/LGPL2 licensing terms, and I will continue to develop and support CUPS at Apple.

Mozilla Exec Burns Apple's Pie Chart

Apple's launch of Safari on Windows has already managed to irk a competitor. However, Mozilla's John Lilly isn't upset that there's a new browser in town; what bugs him is how that new browser was introduced. One of the pie charts Steve Jobs used to illustrate browser market share showed only Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Safari, with no mention of Firefox or any other browser.

Jobs does Windows with open source

Think of Safari as Apple outreach. Apple is the most proprietary company in the computing universe, more proprietary even than Microsoft. It’s tossing some open source code over the side, wondering what the so-called “community” will do with it.

iTunes in Linux

However, they so far have neglected the Linux user. Will apple release iTunes for Linux? Not anytime soon. So what solutions does the open source community have?

Apple-TV to run Linux soon?

Apple's Apple-TV (A-TV) is based on a more-or-less standard Intel PC architecture, according to an in-depth "under-the-hood" analysis. Additionally, a community project has already reported success in getting a Linux kernel and various device drivers to operate on the platform.
