By the end of 2004, I'd been running Debian ‘testing’ on my laptop since around early 2003, but after 6-8 months of woody, I was backporting far too much and I couldn't spare the time for upkeep. At just about that time, a thing called ‘warty’ was released.

If we want to see 2010 as a major movement year for desktop Linux deployments, we need to stop talking about it as if it "has not been ready" but "could now be ready." ... No one is willing to give up their favorite applications, or key tools, to move to a new environment -- even if it is far superior in quality, stability and cost.

OpenStreetMap Founder Steve Coast has announced that the OpenStreetMap (OSM) Project now has more than 200,000 registered users. The project, originally started in August of 2004, has become increasingly popular in recent months. The new milestone comes less than ten months after the project reached 100,000 registered users back in March of 2009.
