Ben Goodger of Firefox on how being a very young volunteer in the web world can pan out
Firefox was the result of several people coming together and saying, “We have this great platform and we really want to make the most of it and the only thing that’s not decided yet is will we work together as a team and make this happen.” That was the start. I was in New Zealand doing my school work, and working as a volunteer.

"One of the things that is very confusing to new Linux enthusiasts is the "distro," or distribution. The reasoning runs thus: "More commercialisation of the FOSS industry will mean more advertising - and that means more profits for our businesses. Let's oppose anything that comes in the way.

Is Red Hat Exchange DOA?
Via Dana & Matt, The Register reports that the Red Hat Exchange (RHX) "roars like a muted lamb". The Register's point is that RHX has met with a lukewarm reception to date.

Anybody up to writing good directory software?
Tue, 2007-02-20 11:17 — David JonathanFrom the very start, directories have served a very useful purpose on the Internet. (One I find useful for example is Free Web Directory). News sites can also be considered directories: they index and categorize news stories! What about categorizing software? In the open source world you get Savannah, SourceForge, Freshmeat; there are still, believe it or not, shareware and freeware directories like FileBuzz, PCWin Download Center and Freeware Downloads (although you need to be careful, as they are not like their free-as-in-freedom counterparts).
Is better education the key to finding better software?
Sat, 2007-03-03 03:25 — Edward RusselAbout Jonathon's article Anybody Up To Writing Good Directory Software?, it's clear that the topic of software directories is very hot. Examples of such sites are Freeware Downloads and Shareware Download, which simply don't focus on "free as in freedom", and still can be used as good free software directories.
