Meanwhile, Hewlett-Packard says that it hopes to offer preinstalled Linux on personal computers within a few weeks or months. The distribution of choice is unaffected by Microsoft deals (or ‘tax’)

Linux Camp Divided on Microsoft Deals
The Linux community is splitting — right down the middle, at this point — over Microsoft Corp.’s controversial claimsthat the open-source operating system infringes on patents it holds.
Last Tuesday, Paris-based Mandriva became the third Linux vendor within five days to say it isn’t interested in signing a licensing deal with Microsoft to avoid possible infringement claims.

Linux News: Business: Enterprise Linux 5 May Lift Red Hat Q1 Earnings
In a June 21 note to clients, WR Hambrecht analyst Robert Stimson wrote he thinks the company's first-quarter results will come in at or slightly above his estimates of 16 cents in adjusted earnings per share and $117.3 million in revenue. Stimson wrote the company's Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 will benefit from being the first product in its market with extensively tested virtualization features.

Trolltech tempts hackers with free Linux phones
Trolltech will provide free phones and SDKs (software development kits) to developers willing to target its Qtopia application development framework for mobile phones.
