Mozilla has taken a position on the European Union's proposed settlement with Microsoft about browser integration in Windows 7. Both Mozilla Foundation's Mitchell Baker and Mozilla's general counsel feel that Microsoft is benefiting all too well from the settlement.

The other reason I haven't yet written is equally simple: the latest skirmish that i4i won in Texas really doesn't matter very much.

A US federal appeals court overturned a judge’s ruling that granted Novell the copyright of the Unix computer OS yesterday. A panel of three judges of the 10th US circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a judge in the August 2007 case wrongfully handed the copyright to Novell. As a result the panel has ordered a “remand for trial” to establish ownership.

Is it just me, or does it sometimes seem that the principle role of the IT industry is to act as a job creation scheme for lawyers?

HP and Dell have asked the court to allow them to file amicus briefs in support of Microsoft's Emergency Motion to Stay Permanent Injunction Pending Appeal in the i4i patent litigation. Tristan Louis gives weight to new term that I like a lot: fauxpen. Faux in French means "false" or "fake". So fauxpen means fake open. There has always been a lot of that going around, but since the world of tech inevitably contains more of everything, there's more fauxpen stuff than ever.

SCO's Trustee may remove the management. THE recent decision about UNIX meant very little when it comes to Linux. Not only does it fail to change SCO's empty case, but it also neglects the importance of the fact that SCO will be partly managed (and supervised) by an outsider.
