We’ve heard from folks that the final post-Ballot Resolution Meeting version of OOXML has still not been made available to national standards bodies. This would be the updated 6000+ page document that included all the edits voted on at the BRM. With such a document one could actually, for example, check correctness of the edits and ensure that changes were actually inserted.

"Racketware": illegal in France
"Ironically, as the hearing for the first out of three assignements introduced by French consumer association UFC-Que Choisir against systematic sale of pre-installed Windows with Personal Computers was held in Court in Paris, we learned that manufacturer Asus was condemned in Caen, Normandy (case Hordoir vs. Asus, 30 April 2008) to reimburse the client for unwanted software licences.

EU and USA negotiating mutual patent recognition
In its statement on the results of the Transatlantic Economic Council negotiations, issued last week, the council made brief reference to the intellectual property rights issue. A single bullet point in the statement references a roadmap issued jointly by the European Commission and US Patent Office aimed at advancing "global patent harmonization".

SCO's Updates its "Legal Update" Page
SCO has posted some new materials on its Legal Update page, under a bizarre header, "Update on Rights to Continue Our UNIX Business." Has that ever been in dispute? If so, I've missed it. And isn't that exactly what SCO keeps trying to sell, its Unix business? I'm confused, unless one defines SCO's "business" as the business of litigation.
