If the GUI is so good. Then why is Microsoft dropping it?

http://blogs.ittoolbox.com

I was informed...that windows 2008 is able to be installed without the GUI so I wondered. If the GUI is so good. If all programs and system configuration can be done through the point and click interface. Then why is Microsoft giving the option of installing windows 2008 without the GUI interface? Further why are windows aficionado's touting this as a "Good Thing (TM)"?

Microsoft to Try Windows XP Out on OLPC in January

http://www.pcworld.com

Like Cinderella's glass slipper, the OLPC will have efforts made to fit XP into it. Not the full version with heel and toes, but a cut down version, maybe the $3 version? Windows Vista, Freeware Version

http://www.informationweek.com

After Vista SP1, the worst that will happen is a warning notice that forces a 15-second delay at login, and a reminder every hour on the hour to activate.
Gates famously stated in the past that if people pirated an OS he would prefer it to be Windows. Microsoft forgot this for a while, but there is a glimmer of a re awakening. Don't be fooled by the bad product that is Vista. There is a long way to go before Microsoft runs out of money!

Why I Can't Test 3.0b1

http://weblogs.mozillazine.org

And until those addons are available for Firefox 3.0b1, they won't be migrating - or will do so only for dedicated testing sessions, not every-day browsing..."

Maximum Wait for MinWin, Windows 7.0

http://techiqmag.com

The circle of life continues at Microsoft. The software giant, desperate to freeze a market, has started evangelizing a “new” version of Windows (called MinWin) that will correct Windows Vista’s bloatware problems. But don’t blame Microsoft for the noise about MinWin and Windows 7.0... (due in 2010 supposedly)

Intel, Microsoft Parting Ways Means "WinTel" Demise

http://www.x86watch.com

While Intel appears to be moving toward a future of more efficient, higher-performance technology, Microsoft, alas, appears bent on the exact opposite. This will inevitably lead to the decoupling of the seemingly-omnipotent WinTel duopoly that has reigned almost unchallenged for two decades. Their paths diverge more every year. Intel continues to build smaller, faster chips.
