As you know, Microsoft has recently announced support for ODF in the next service pack for Office (SP2 for Office 2007, expected to be released in the first half of 2009). You get some positive news, such as the Amicus brief filed by the EFF and others in the Jammie Thomas case, which could net her a new trial. But also on Friday, the MPAA filed its own brief, one which basically says it feels evidence isn't necessary in the case of one of its copyright infringement trials.

Pentaho, a maker of open business intelligence (BI) software, is moving away from the Mozilla Public License for its BI product. The company announced this month that Version 2 alpha, as well as subsequent versions of its Pentaho BI platform, will be released under the GNU GPL Version 2 license.

More proof time flies. GPL v. 3 is one year old. To “celebrate,” Black Duck Software looked at some of its own license resources , including its list of V.3 licensees, concluding that the divide between V.2 and V.3 licenses still lives, one year on. Black Duck founder Douglas Levin said inertia is on V.2’s side.
