Canonical and the Ubuntu community are busy polishing Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), a major upgrade set to debut in April 2010. But before the new Linux distribution arrives, the Ubuntu community will host an Ubuntu Global Jam from March 26 to March 28. The big questions: Will customers also join in the Jam? Should they? Fixing the Perception of Bugs
More bugs, and bug reports, are good. No really, at least that's what Karl Fogel says in trying to squash the idea that bugs are "technical debt that developers must repay. Fogel, who works for Canonical on the Launchpad platform, says that it's a fallacy that growths in bug reports is bad. On the contrary, more bug reports mean good news because it means more users are using the project.

Could Apple's iPad be the New Firefox?
Everyone is noting that Apple's iPad is a closed system; but there's a dangerous knock-on consequence of giving people the ultimate system for *consuming* content: they don't really understand computers. That's bad, because it means that politicians will find it even easier to bring in legislation like ACTA that will harm free software.

A little less than a year ago, the Linux Foundation launched a program to provide a variety of training opportunities for Linux professionals. Just a few months later, the Foundation moved the program online, offering web-based sessions of select courses to reach a wider audience. Recently I replaced my mother’s PC, and I thought I could switch her to Linux. She was previously using Windows XP with several Open Source applications. I decided to install Ubuntu 9.10, since it seems that it’s most devoted to non-expert users.

Hitting the Debian Lenny sweet spot
