Counting down to Pengicon

http://www.dissociatedpress.net

It's only a few more days until Penguicon, North America's finest science fiction and open source software convention. I'm not only psyched to be attending, but I'm flattered beyond words to be one of this year's Guests of Honor

What SHOULD Linux be?

http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com

Recently I was involved with a conversation on a Linux mailing list regarding the current state of the operating system... one of the issues that was brought up was emulation. Because it is so simple to configure the Linux desktop to look and behave like either Windows or OS X, there are many that espouse doing so.

Either it’s free or it’s not

http://kmandla.wordpress.com

No one told me I couldn’t use Linux, only that I couldn’t change it to suit my beliefs. I was free to try it and use it and endorse it, but if my own perspective differed from the originators, I should keep my mouth shut and learn to live with things as they had been created, decades ago.

The Debian Taliban Responds

http://robinzrants.wordpress.com

Cfengine Revs Up Configuration Management

http://community.zenoss.org

Mark Burgess [...] put together an entire configuration management system in 1993 while doing a post-doctorate fellowship at the University of Oslo, just because he was tired of managing his systems manually with scripts and wanted to do it better. Which is right up there with [...] Linus.

A Linux Client at Work

http://elevenislouder.blogspot.com

I am in the computer repair business. Normally, people come in with either PCs or Macs, and request repairs that are really rather simple. Occasionally, I'm called on to do large installations, or set up servers, but that's rare. What's even more rare is having a Linux client.

http://robinzrants.wordpress.com

Debian doesn’t love me. I dunno what I did to incur such defiance, but one thing is for sure: I’m very grateful for the folks at Mepis, and Canonical, Sidux, and others who can tame Debian and make it usable.
