A huge company like Microsoft or Apple, or even Red Hat or Novell, can afford to put on big advertising campaigns, but most distributions, even ones like Ubuntu, cannot afford to do this. Instead, they must fall back to fan-based promotion or other small budget techniques.

Many college graduates are finding it difficult to enter the information technology world with little or no work experience. There is no such thing as an entry-level position anymore, and more and more graduates are finding themselves in a catch-22 situation because of this.

Every user of an application has run into small but irritating characteristics of that application. Most of the time, they can be easily ignored. But sometimes they are part of a repetitive task, and then they become problematic. They have a disproportionate effect on both productivity and the user's overall impression of the application.

I just wanted to extended a huge “thank you!” to all of the Ubuntu community :) Today Ubuntu won the “Best Desktop Solution” Product Excellence Award at LinuxWorld Conference and Expo 2008 in San Francisco, California for a second consecutive year.

Less than a year ago, although it seems like it has been much longer, the gPC raised a lot of attention for being a $200 desktop that ran Linux and had the potential to gain mainstream recognition, since it had already convinced Wal-Mart to stock it. The operating system for the gPC was/is called gOS.
