"I'm Linux" contest open for video entries
The Linux Foundation (LF) is now accepting 60-second video entries for its "I'm Linux" contest, which spoofs recent Apple and Microsoft commercials. The winner will receive a free trip to Tokyo to participate in the LF's Japan Linux Symposium in October 2009, says the nonprofit group.

The Man and the Myth Behind Ubuntu
The New York Times ran a story today about Ubuntu and its prospects for beating Microsoft. Focusing on Mark Shuttleworth, the South African billionaire who founded the Ubuntu project and leads Canonical, the Times reporter concludes that the idea of Linux on every desktop remains a bit “quixotic,” and suggests that Ubuntu has only come so far thanks to Shuttleworth’s wealth.

Ruby on Emacs (journey from TextMate to Emacs…)

Cutting Through the Windows 7 Hype
I don't understand it. When it comes to Windows, everything either sucks or is the best thing in the world according to the press. There seems to be no intermediate point, despite the fact that that is where most Windows releases would fit. Recently, I have been getting very tired of anything with the words "Windows 7," "killer," and "linux," no matter what order those appear in.

Break the reboot cycle. Use Linux.
You may have noticed that I have been quiet for the last couple of days. The reason is I have been working on a windows computer, trying to fix it. Reformatting and reloading was an option but the pain and time taken to reconfigure the thing was prohibitive. Besides I knew what the problem was and I could fix it.

Linux.com is still stalled
Linux.com has changed it's formatting, more or less dramatically since the first of the year. Submissions to their Features and NewsVac pages are no longer being offered. The main page now points to a Linux discussion forum (and do we need another Linux discussion forum?). What's going on?
