I seriously doubt any of my clients will ever be “Linux newbies” for the simple reason too many Linux people assume “newbie” means someone who will become one of the techies. That is, the term seems to assume this person will eventually have to see the commandline, and they better get used to it already.

"This is a rough transcript, with links, of a 3-minute lightning talk I gave at LCA. It’s obviously not a complete argument; just a 180-second pitch for why the drama about Py3k is all smoke and no fire..."

When I think of Linux, I think of community. There is lots more to Linux, but it is community that springs to my mind. That is probably because it is like a Second Life for me. I spend much time out there, in the Linux community. But when I think of community, I think of only one thing, Ubuntu.

Linux.Conf.Au - Day One
We were playing spot-the-conference-attendee - a Linux cap here, a summer of code shirt there - when Linus Torvalds boarded our plane, looking a little sheepish at all the adoring stares. I ran into him again after we disembarked - standing in my way at the baggage carousel. I forgave him. After all, I've heard he's a KDE fan.

Move over PC and Mac; it's time for "I'm Linux"
The Linux Foundation hopes to succeed where Microsoft’s short-lived Jerry Seinfeld experiment failed, namely landing a glove on Apple’s unrelenting "I'm a Mac" ads. And not a moment too soon with fear of anything not Windows at a high as demonstrated by this week’s news about a young lady dropping out of College "because of Ubuntu Linux."

My first year with Linux
As of December 25, 2008 it has been a year since I first installed a Linux distro on my home computer. With the help of my brother, I installed Debian based sidux and I have to say, I have been very pleased with the results. You can read about my first impressions of sidux here and here. I thought I would share a few of my thoughts about my first full year of using Linux.

Realistically Allowing for Numerous Software Preferences in Education
I consider the vast majority of people's personal random complaints about Linux to be absolutely irrelevant. I really don't care if one random person wants Linux to work like Windows in a particular way. The recent stories floating around are no exception, either.
