Introducing KDE 4 - Kontact: Contacts (KAddressBook)
In the last article I was very positive toward the Kontact suit. However, Contacts is the exception to this. The interface is way too cluttered and wastes too much space. From the main interface to the Contact editor, everything seems like it could be fairly better.

Etch Is Still Better
I’m not sure why, but after testing Lenny several different ways, Etch is still better. In fact, Lenny is downright inferior.

Writing a Linux shell book the community way
There are several ways you can learn how to use the Linux command line. The way I took was the traditional one. I read the, ahem, fine manual, RTFM as we like to say, and I used the 'man' command a lot. That was well back before O'Reilly started publishing its great Unix and Linux technology books.

It's time for people to start thinking hard if they want to run for the elections. People usually don't think they can run for the elections; maybe they feel they're not involved enough in GNOME, or they don't feel like they are able to help, or there's some other random reason to not run.

Centralizing Linux
The Linux Foundation, a nonprofit organization created in 2007 to promote Linux, recently assumed control of the linux.com domain. This is a good move, as it helps consolidate the image of Linux, making it easier for new users to find and understand the operating system - in other words, it brings greater centralization to Linux, which is badly needed if free software is to become ubiquitous on

My dog is more Linux than your dog
Is there really a way for any one distro to be "more Linux' than another? Possibly the answer is yes and no, right down the middle.

Move over Tux; it's time for Tuz the Tassie Devil
Ever socially aware, Linux has a new mascot for a short while. Tuz will instead embrace the boot screen of many a distro in kernel 2.6.29.

Linux: The Brand
If you haven’t yet, catch some of these videos that were entered into the Linux Foundation’s competition. Despite how great some of these videos are, I do have a problem with the way ‘Linux’ the brand is used. This post won’t win me many friends, we’re all very invested in the current Linux brand. But I argue that has to change:

My Distro Is Better Than Yours…. Not!
I read a lot of news feeds. Sometimes too many. I admit it. About 10% of what I read is new. The most tiresome ones have to be the my-distro-is-better-than-yours. Only slightly less tiresome are the Linux vs. Windows ones.

More on the Ubuntu Jaunty Notifications Crapfest
I mentioned earlier that I had some objections to this new “Indicator” crapplet in Ubuntu Jaunty, I view it as a kind of foistware that has nothing to do with the system.
