There are too many companies developing Free Software just as a marketing strategy until the project is well know and, afterwards, turn it a cripled version and/or hosted only version.

There's a lot to this story, because Manuel de Icaza -- GNOME architect and now a Novell VP -- had a lot to say at this MIX panel. Besides the Microsoft comment, he discussed Moonlight patent indemnification and third-party use, and had a very interesting view on the future of Linux and Windows. He's not saying they will die, he just questions their long-term relevance.
