Linux user for a couple of years. Only Linux and I love it. Still, some things are wrong, they are wrong, and unfortunately, as I see it, they will always be wrong (yes I'm paid by Microsoft to say this; and yes I get the big bucks from them; and yes that's true, and unfortunately it seems like it's true for a long time now :(

Ars Technica has an excellent series of articles about user security and why it's important for you to take security seriously, and why it's not just one of those "silly little things" that you leave for the geeks to worry about.

Well, this got my attention. InformationWeek has just stated in a strange anti-GPL, anti-Linux, anti-Open Source article called "Open Source Is Dead, Long Live Open Patents?" (he imagines the IBM patent move this week was to replace the GPL, if I've followed his train of thought) that IBM owns Unix

It's been at least a week since the last bout of Microsoft FUD hit the wires, so I guess it was time for a new wave. Today's FUD comes from an article Microsoft released on how its security compares with that of Linux. It should come as no surprise that Windows comes off as the Second Coming while Linux is left on the wrong side of Acheron.

InformationWeek have responded to critcisms of misrepresentation with ...a straw man. This short piece points out how InformationWeek's continued rehashing of old material disproves their own claim of a "growing schism".

One of the areas where Linux really shines is security: you do not really need an antivirus if you are running Linux as an end user. In the Windows world however a good antivirus is almost a requirement as viruses and malwares are commonplace. I have personally seen Windows computers being infected less than an hour after being connected to the internet.

This is the first of a series of short how-to articles for Linux. None shall be overly dense or complex. As the title suggests, it will be about getting the job done simply and easily. Sometimes you go for the big-hack like challenge and others you need something like this.
