Just in time for openSUSE 11.1 RC 1, we’ve finished the new and improved license for openSUSE 11.1. The days of agreeing to a click-through EULA for openSUSE are over!

I was reading The Grumpy Editor's Guide to distributions for laptops, when I was stunned by something I didn't know about openSUSE 11.

1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Richard Dooling grants you the following rights provided that you comply with all terms and conditions of this EULA:

Mozilla received a lot of criticism from OS community for bundling EULA with Firefox builds. Even though they decided to remove EULA, earlier Ubuntu Ibex alpha builds still had the old EULA on.

My laptop was stolen, so I went down to Best Buy and picked up an HP dv6815nr since it was on sale for $599.99+tax. After powering it up, I was confronted by the Microsoft Windows Vista EULA and the HP EULA:

With its recent 11.1 release, OpenSUSE has changed the end-user license agreement (EULA) users must accept in order to install the distribution. The new, more Fedora-like license could increase the distribution's appeal among those wishing to redistribute the software, including engineers assembling filesystems for embedded Linux devices.

In the past few days we have seen a debate explode over the inclusion of a EULA in the version of Firefox to be included in future Ubuntu releases. Some argue that Ubuntu should just leave the EULA in, while others argue that something like IceWeasel, an unbranded version of Firefox, should be included.

As I reported yesterday, Mozilla has admitted that the Firefox EULA was flawed.

I mean honestly, the openSUSE team from what I have observed needs a community, and developers to help. How does this make anyone want to help? How does it foster the environment needed?
