It has been suggested by one of our prominent community members that the use of negative votes should be confined to demoting spam. As the individual responsible for the introduction of negative voting on FSDaily, I feel I should explain my rationale for its inclusion and provide my tips on negative voting.
Currently Microsoft is feeling the full impact of the global economic slowdown. Reduced demand for its Windows OS & other software products has had a negative impact on the software giant. Both sales & profit are down. Meanwhile, Linux isn't feeling any impact at all.
BOTH MICROSOFT and Novell will have a role or at least some impact at a formal, national level. Mundie's involvement is a subject that we covered yesterday [1, 2], but we wrote not as much about Schmidt's impact. Sun, Google, and Novell are all places where he worked, so his affinity towards particular companies cannot be ignored.
Although still very much in its infancy, FOSS LGBT is my little pet project for the LGBT GNU/Linux and FOSS users to come out of the woodwork and band together to help maintain diversity any acceptance in the FOSS community. The goals are similar to the Ubuntu Women project.
Whenever bringing up the RadeonHD driver at Phoronix it generally leads to a heated discussion in our forums between community members, developers, and other representatives over the history of the RadeonHD driver and what really was its purpose, among other dissenting views.
As you may already know, at this year's aKademy the term came up for our past KDE e.V. president, Eva. She served for years on the board and in my opinion did a great job as president. Filling her void was the matter of quite a bit of discussion and I personally thought hard about whether or not to take on the position for days prior to going to Glasgow.
