I do realize it's a pretty provocative title, perhaps I should clarify. I don't mean to say that all users will start running Linux and Microsoft will go out of business. I mean the death of Microsoft as we know it...as "the only, dominant, choice for desktop PC computing."
In many ways, Microsoft has little to worry about, at least not for now. Sure, they are losing market share steadily, but for their lead to be toppled it would take years and years, or would it?
"I guess you saw the news about Microsoft submitting some licenses to OSI hoping for approval as "open source" licenses. You can watch Bill Hilf of Microsoft giving his talk at OSCON, which is where the stories emanated from."
This cycle of accusations cannot be good for anyone and is definitely bad for Linux's reputation. The problem is that some (not all) people jump too quickly to the assumption that there is some sort of conspiracy against Linux. I can't even really blame these people.
Criticism of a new writeup from OSS Watch, which grossly whitewashes some of Microsoft's behaviour and instead focuses on PR gestures and corporate spin.
