Last week, the all-knowing Mako inspired me to give zsh a shot. He started me off with a .zshrc file, and now a week later, I’ve been spreading the word to as many people as I can. But let’s rewind a bit.

Inspired by a comment I received yesterday explaining the problems with non-programmers getting involved in helping Linux projects, I have decided to give a little guidance on how to help out if you are not the code monkey type.

I’ll give a prime example. Wanted to watch a netflix movie tonight, so of course its a windows IE only application (boo on netflix….i need to start a email campaign towards them about that).

It is interesting now. If you do a search for Linux and “not ready for prime time” you get a few people (presumably Linux fans) who will even question the term “prime time.” Rather than address valid concerns in the Linux community (by non-Linux users), they question what does “ready for prime time actually mean?”

After messing around with PCLinuxOS, I finally decided it was time to give Linux Mint a try. The funny thing was I had the torrent file around on my computer but I never got around to downloading it and decided to give PCLinuxOS a try because of it's popularity on DistroWatch.com.

When I started at the new job in August, they gave me a pretty powerful laptop and since the company I work for is 100% windows, I decided to give Vista a shot. I've been using it exclusively for about 1.5 months, from the beginning of August to the mid-September, every day, 40 hours a week. I also installed Ubuntu at that time.

This summer, I’ve been working on getting Mozilla’s color management backend ready for the prime time. We’re finally turning it on in tonight’s nightly builds, so I thought I’d give a bit of background on the history of color management in Mozilla and on color management in general. You should all go download the latest nightly when it comes out and give it a try.

I used KDE as my primary desktop from 1996 through 2006, when I installed the GNOME version of Ubuntu and found that I liked it better than the KDE desktop I'd faced every morning for so many years. Last January, I got a new Dell Latitude D630 laptop and decided to install Kubuntu on it, but within a few weeks, I went back to GNOME.

I was almost about to give up on Ubuntu, because after I installed the Fiesty, I was not able to download the packages from Repositories due to some proxy authentication issue.
