Alternative Communities Matter
Perhaps it is best for FOSS enthusiasts and other forward-thinking people to abandon Digg completely and stick to Slashdot, or FS Daily. :)
This site tends to do a pretty good job of free social media, though I wish something bigger existed to encompass all aspects of progressive movements, and not just software. Ah well, I'm sure it's somewhere out there.

FSDaily content
FSDaily is for the FOSS community and anything that is of interest to them. Free culture, remix culture, open government and net-neutrality are examples of topics which aren't strictly about software but which are usually of interest to our community. Obviously there's going to be a limit to how far you can stray away from software before you'll be off topic but the community can decide the limits by casting it's vote.
