You should Value Your Freedom
Software developers that don't care for their freedom will use software practicality as their primary candidate to judging which software systems to use. Note that the language and thought patterns used by Levin are of those that do not value user freedom.
It is easy to be seduced back into subjugation when you fail to value freedom. This is especially true for people that are in the position for advocating the increased usage of licensed proprietary software. I imagine that the companies that hire the advice of Black Duck are not the sort of companies that value user freedom and so, are easily persuaded into choosing proprietary solutions with or without the advice of Black Duck.
I guess my point is that while it is not bad to point out sources of FUD (or potential sources of FUD) against free software, I believe it is essentially a fruitless endeavour if your goal is to get users to use free software; amoral computer software users are going to choose that which is more convenient over the free but less convenient solution. A more effective approach would be to educate society about freedom and to teach them to value it even at the cost of inconvenience.
