FlickrSave is a GIMP plugin which adds an option to directly upload a picture to Flickr. It uses Christophe Beauregard's flickr_upload tool as a backend. The plugin supports setting title, description, tags and privacy, and works in both GIMP-2.2 and GIMP-2.4RC under Linux.

For those who don't know gimp-plugin-registry yet, it is a collection of scripts and plugins for The GIMP. The name is based on the webpage GIMP Plugin Registry, where most (new) plugins and scripts are listed. So far the package ships with 170 scripts/plugins.

Apostolos Dountsis wrote a social bookmark plugin for Wordpress. I modified the plugin to include FreeSoftwareDaily, and in accordance with the terms of the GPL 3.0 it was licensed under I'm making those changes available. I hope others find a use for this plugin on their wordpress blogs and sites.You can download the mod here

Here comes a plugin that some of you have awaited for a while!

It's a plugin which allows you to backup the whole prefix of an application installed in PlayOnLinux, the version of Wine used with it (it's defined in "PlayOnLinux -> Tools -> Manage Wine versions"), and the launcher of that application.

"End Software Patents, a project working toward the elimination of software patents, was launched today. The ESP project will initially focus on two approaches: 1) assisting corporations that choose to challenge software patents in the courts and at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on the basis that patents for software and designs with no physically innovative step have no legal validity, and 2) public education aimed at passing laws to protect software from patent law. [...] In a separate announcement today, ESP released its first report on the current state of software and business method patents. The report covers the economic impact of software patents, including the $11.4 billion that U.S. businesses waste each year on software patent litigation.

Patent advocates, large successful businesses, and politicians are so enthusiastic about the patenting of software that it’s hard to accept arguments from people like the FFII and Free Software Foundation who claim that the software industry simply does not need software patents and would be far better off without them.
