PatientOS is a free EMR system for physician offices and clinics. The system is designed to scale and evolve to be a fully fledged healthcare information system for hospitals.
Version 0.40 adds an HL7 laboratory result inbound interface (ORU^R01). A basic result viewer has been added to the chart.
PatientOS version 0.40 includes a demonstration web based Patient Portal. Patients can login and submit a progress form which is filed into their chart.
The patients chart includes a Flowsheet tab which displays the discrete details submitted via the Patient Portal. Basic communication orders can be created.

An email service has been added to allow the composition of text or HTML emails.

A Batch Scheduler has been created. Batch Jobs can be defined and executed at scheduled times.

The Veterans Affairs Department sees advantages in using open-source software to modernize its Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) system, but it anticipates several problems if it takes that step. The VA issued a request for information Aug. 11 asking for industry to deal with anticipated concerns related to open-source development for VistA.

"In a recent interview with Microsoft's COO Kevin Turner, the executive was asked about the future of Windows. In response, Turner had this to say: "Certainly, this last year has been an unprecedented year for Vista and Office and the launch," Turner said. "And we are still committed to the desktop. I really cannot understand why hospitals, who ultimately deal with human lives are allowed to use MS-Windows on their networks. Even a simple delay in looking up if a person has a allergy for a given drug can prove to be fatal.

PatientOS Open Source EMR v0.99 "Falchion" Edition Released

PatientOS EMR is an open source health care information system with a comprehensive toolkit to customize the EMR to meet the needs of Hospitals, Clinics and Businesses seeking to integrate an EMR with their software.

In the past I’ve spoken highly of VistA, the Veteran’s Administration computerized health records system—and with good reason. VistA has a lot going for it. In 2006, it won an “Innovations in American Government Award” from Harvard. Studies show that use of VistA has improved VA productivity by 6 percent a year since national implementation was achieved in 1999.

I have been using Vista for well over a year now (since Beta 1). Of course Vista is slow, its bloated (over 10x the size of XP), aero kills system performance (even though this should be done on the video card), networking is pathetically slow, etc etc. We all know Vista sucks.

But recently my blood has been set to a rolling boil by the fact that most of my games just don’t work in Vista. At all. Its so bad that out of spite I have decided to make a list of games that work better in Linux under Wine than in Vista. These are games that were originally written to run in Windows XP, are broken in Vista, but magically work in Linux.
