Acer announced its first Android smartphone, which will also be the first Android phone based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor. The Acer Liquid offers a WVGA touchscreen, HSPA 3G support, plus Android 1.6, and reportedly also provides WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and a five megapixel camera.

Samsung announced an Android-powered "Galaxy Spica I5700" smartphone, targeting Europe. In other Android news, Dell confirmed Brazilian and Chinese carriers for its Dell Mini 3, Google released a second-generation developers phone, and ZiiLabs is prepping an Android platform, say reports.

Following previous reports that Dell's Mini 3i smartphone was merely a proof of concept, the computer giant has now confirmed that it's planning on releasing the device. Dell says that it's Android-based phone will feature a 3.5 inch capacitive touch screen display and that it will be launching this year in Brazil and China.

According to several reliable sources, Dell's very first smartphone dubbed as Mini 3i has arrived. It runs on Android-based operating system but has fairly limited amount of features.

Dell today announced it has chosen AT&T as its exclusive U.S. carrier for its upcoming lineup of Android-based smartphones, known as the Mini 3.

LG has launched its first Android phone, a QWERTY slider called the "Eve," on Rogers Wireless' network in Canada. In other Android news, LG is prepping a second Android phone, this time with a Snapdragon processor, for Korea, and Philips has launched a V808 oPhone handset in China.

In 2009, many Android phones are going to be appearing, and as applications and innovative designs proliferate, they could give the iPhone a run for its money. Today, photos are appearing of Lenovo's Ophone, which is an Android phone that it has slated for delivery in China.

So this guy buys a Dell Inspiron Mini 10.1-inch netbook but either isn't happy at its lack of cellular coverage, or just has a severe phone fixation and decides to rip it apart and turn it into a Dell Mini 3i phone, complete with Android-based OS.

Android continues its march towards the top of the smartphone market. We’re in the new economy where every two years we get a new phone, whether we need one or not. And every few months we get a new Android release. Android 2.1 is barely a few months old and it is already time for a new one.
