Initially developed as Western Quake 3, Smokin' Guns is the game for you if you ever feel nostalgic of the Old West. Smokin' Guns, an open source, cross platform first-person shooter is intended to be a semi-realistic simulation of the "Old West's" great atmosphere.

It's been a while since I last reviewed a shooter game for Linux, and one of them was World of Padman (reviewed here), which was a cartoon-like, funny first-person shooter. Well, the same goes for Warsow, the game I'm going to talk about in this article. Every graphical aspect of Warsow indicates we're dealing with a cartoon-like universe, from the character models to weapons and maps.

AstroMenace is a 3D space shooter game. This game features include: create your own levels by using script, allow mouse, keyboard and joystick control, support Linux and Windows platform. AstroMenace is a very funny game.

Syntensity isn’t a single game, but rather a platform that can run all kinds of 3D games. There are already a few games, and anybody can create their own. The main game is a multiplayer first/third person shooter (sort of like Quake 3 Arena), and there is also a simple drawing game (in which multiple people can draw and see what each other are drawing in realtime).

Based upon the Cube engine, AssaultCube is a fast paced, first-person shooter, (partially) open source, cross platform game. Formerly called ActionCube, this game can be played both online with hundreds of other players from around the world or in a single player mode.

Can Android still make a difference? Sure. Android doesn't even have to win. It just has to be in the game. What does Android promise? Lots of third-party applications and better Web browsing, mainly. That's what Nokia, Apple, Symbian, AT&T and the rest will be scrambling to match in the year before Android-based phones hit the market.

Alien Arena 2007 is a free/open-source first-person shooter game based on source code released by id Software. Started by COR Entertainment in 2004, the game combines a 1950s-era sci-fi atmosphere with gameplay similar to the Quake, Doom, and Unreal Tournament series. Alien Arena is primarily an online multiplayer action game, although single player campaigns are also available against bots.

I had the time to play yet another exciting game on my Linux box. It’s a free first person shooter called Urban Terror. The game is a total modification of the immensely popular Quake III Arena. It introduces many elements of the tactical shooter genre --team-driven gaming in more realistic environments.
