Android goes beyond Java, gains native C/C++ dev kit
Google has launched a new native development toolkit for Android that will make it possible for third-party Android application developers to use C and C++. Google has also released an Android scripting environment that supports Python and Lua.

Kernel Log: Main development phase of Linux 2.6.31 completed
Just over two weeks after the release of Linux 2.6.30, Linus Torvalds has released 2.6.31-rc1, the first release candidate of Linux 2.6.31. As usual, "rc1" completes the merge window during which the kernel hackers incorporate the majority of new features into the respective new version's main development branch.

KDE 4.3 branched, trunk is now 4.4
The release team has just done something a bit different from past release cycles to test out some modifications to our usual work flow: with the release of the first release candidate, 4.3 has been immediately branched off of the mainline trunk, and trunk is now 4.4.

Building a Stealth Firewall
A stealth firewall provides a way to gain access to filtering Internet traffic from a position of stealth. A bridge provides stealth because it does not use an IP Address to function but rather operates at the Layer 2 of the OSI model meaning that without an IP Address the firewall is inaccessible and hidden from all would be attackers.

Qt 4.5.2 and Qt Creator 1.2 Released
Nokia today announced the release of updates to Qt: the cross-platform application and UI framework, and Qt Creator: the new cross-platform Qt Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Also released were updates to the Qt Visual Studio Add-in and the Qt Eclipse Integration.

Distributed Storage Across Four Storage Nodes With GlusterFS On Debian Lenny
This tutorial shows how to combine four single storage servers (running Debian Lenny) to one large storage server (distributed storage) with GlusterFS. The client system (Debian Lenny as well) will be able to access the storage as if it was a local filesystem. GlusterFS is a clustered file-system capable of scaling to several peta-bytes.
