Just about a week after X Server 1.7 RC1 made it out, a second release candidate for this next X.Org Server is available. This second release candidate brings bug fixes and other improvements, but the code is currently within a feature freeze...

Keith Packard has just made available the first release candidate of X Server 1.8 and confirms that its release schedule is still on track. Snapshots and the Git code for X Server 1.8 go back to last year, but with a planned release by the end of March, Keith has now started working on release candidates.

The last release candidate of KDE SC 4.4 is out. Following up the first release candidate, another number of bugs has been searched and destroyed. This releases fixes some problems found during the earlier testing phase, and acts as a last line of defense before KDE SC 4.4.0 will be released on February, 9th 2010.

Two weeks after the release of the second beta, the Ubuntu developers have announced the availability of a release candidate (RC) for what will become Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, code named "Lucid Lynx"

OpenOffice 3 should be released in time to be included in Ubuntu 8.10, but you can try the recent release candidate right now in Ubuntu 8.04 (or another Debian-based distribution) without disturbing your existing version of OpenOffice (you can even run both versions at the same time).
