The Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase is an opportunity to bring the best of two great worlds together by showing off high quality Free Culture content in Ubuntu.
"Ladies and Gents, I am pleased to announce the results of the Ubuntu 9.04 Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase. This is the competition in which creative types can submit their work for inclusion in the Examples/ folder of the next edition of Ubuntu. In this competition we expanded the Audio and Video categories to also include a Graphic/Photo category too.
"This idea has been inspired by the UbuntuFreeCultureShowcase. We want to address various social, cultural, political and technologically relevant issues and we want to shake things up a little bit.
Ubuntu has once again opened up a call for submissions to anyone interested in being a part of the Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase. If you're a musician, artist, photographer, or all-around creative genius and would like to enter your work in the current competition, you've got until February 9, 2009 to submit something to the judges.
"For a long time now, Ubuntu has included on the CD a small collection of media files that can be used to show off a new Ubuntu system. This content has always included a sound and a video clip, both using the free Ogg Vorbis and Theora formats.
"Some folks from Free Culture at Virginia Tech came up with and, more impressively, actually started a Free Culture Gaming club! Every week Free Culture Gaming will get together to play free games online with other free culture aficionados. All of the games we play will be 100% free software and free content, as per our standards..." --
