GroundOS.org has announced a new open source cloud web application server. They claim that "cloud computing is little more than a marketing buzzword, used to dress up the cold ugly business model of renting software... the entire cloud computing business model revolves around vendor lock-in, through proprietary and closed source software that is either ad supported, subscription based, and/or profits from the sale of your personal information" Their solution, GroundOS, appears to be a combination of a LAMP server to host the cloud from home or on a web host, with a PHP/Ajax framework that "provides a full portable IDE" and desktop like experience. Is this an open source response to Windows Azure?
