KDE’s default sound subsystems, aRts (Analog realtime synthesizer) has been part of KDE since ages. I really appreciate the quality of lots of software it comes with, however aRts is a real disappointment.

Canadian single-board computer (SBC) startup Virtual Cogs has started shipping its first product: a miniature, modular, embeddable, Linux-based computer. The VC21 is comprised of a Freescale i.MX21-powered processor module, along with a dozen stackable, "Cog"-branded daughterboards that add cameras, touchscreens, sound cards, and so on.

Since the days of early Unix, systems have always had different methods of starting up, shutting down, and managing jobs. Throughout the development of Linux distributions, many saw the usage of System V init, the most common starting system, to be suitable. Distributions have a system that one way or another is compatible with this System V initialization.
