Between Thursday evening and Friday morning, Linus Torvalds released the fourth release candidate of Linux version 2.6.32, although, due to the typing error in the first release candidate (RC1 was mis-labeled RC2), it is called 2.6.32-rc5 instead of 2.6.32-rc4.

As a Christmas (or holiday) gift to all Linux users, Linus Torvalds last night put out the Linux 2.6.33-rc2 kernel release.

At the end of last week, Linus Torvalds released the fifth pre-release version of Linux version 2.6.33, with the final release expected in 4 to 5 weeks time. At this stage in the development cycle, it is usually predominantly more minor changes and fixes which find their way into the main development tree.

This latest release follows a few months after version 2.6.27, which was released in October.

This update to the Linux kernel that's coming three months after the release of Linux 2.6.32 delivers the Nouveau DRM GPU code in the staging area, many Radeon KMS improvements and it has left the staging area, the new VMware DRM, and much more.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, Linus Torvalds released Linux 2.6.30-rc1, the first release candidate of version 2.6.30 of the Linux kernel.

Just over two weeks after the release of Linux 2.6.30, Linus Torvalds has released 2.6.31-rc1, the first release candidate of Linux 2.6.31. As usual, "rc1" completes the merge window during which the kernel hackers incorporate the majority of new features into the respective new version's main development branch.
