Hotot is a lightweight, python-based, desktop twitter client I tried on my Linux Mint 10 GNOME desktop. I found Hotot to include many features you’d expect in a desktop client and a few you may not.

TTYtter is a console console Twitter client. It's not an application but a python script that allows you to use Twitter just like any advanced Twitter client, but within a terminal. And it's not just for posting tweets, but has advanced options like any other well-known Twitter desktop client.

Evilwm folks, you will love it. A twitter desktop client that is completely controlled from Terminal. Twidge is a command line twitter desktop client for Linux. It's feature rich and obviously easy to use.

Hotot is a new Twitter client that comes with all the basic features a Twitter client has, that is support for status updates, retweets, directs, search etc., plus some really interesting features.

Hotot is extensible through a number of extensions, three as of now. For image uploading, inline image previews and geolocation.

If you've been using Twitter through its website, I recommend that you use a desktop client instead to further enhance your twitting experience. Since Twitter has become immensely popular, there are tons and tons of available desktop applications that support this great micro-blogging service.

Twidge is a command line Twitter desktop client for Ubuntu/Linux. Twidge supports posting updates, reading replies, adding more friends etc and its integration with the Unix shell scripting environment is just superb. Previously, the way to connect to Twitter using Pidgin (IM client for yahoo, google talk, msn, etc), was to use a jabber account like google chat, then add Twitter. But Twitter shut down the Jabber service. So it doesn’t work anymore. But now, Pidgin-microblog can do the trick.

Though the nascent client is a little primitive for me. Another popular choice is gTwitter though in my experience it's only been marginally better.
