Open source networking vendor Vyatta is rolling out the latest community edition of its routing software, continuing efforts to target Cisco users in a battle for a slice of the multi-billion-dollar router market. But while Vyatta Community Edition 3 (VC3) adds new features, users of Vyatta's subscription-based edition may not notice much change.

Vyatta offers hardware and open source software for enterprise-level network infrastructure. Vyatta can turn any 32-bit x86 machine with at least one network interface into a network appliance that handles routing, firewall, and VPN tasks. The company released Vyatta Community Edition 4 in April, with improved scalability and feature enhancements.

Vyatta has announced the availability of its 2.2 beta, codenamed "Camarillo." This release includes a number of enhancements, new features, and more than 100 bug fixes for Vyatta's commercially supported open, flexible router (OFR) distribution.

Vyatta has spun a branded hardware "appliance" version of its dual-licensed Linux and open source software-based router and firewall stack. The first in a "Series 2500" line of "Open Networking Appliances," the Vyatta 2501 targets data centers requiring up to 10Gbps of throughput.

With the release of Vyatta Community Edition 4 and the nascent channel program, Vyatta is ready to take on Cisco in the data center.

Startup Linux networking vendor Vyatta is set to announce a new hardware appliance on December 9th. The new device will add more power to Vyatta's lineup of networking products that they are targetting competitively against Cisco and other proprietary vendors.

Someone on this blog pointed me at vyatta, and to that person - THANK YOU! I have now tried Vyatta, not only have I tried it I have fallen in love with it. In a nutshell Vyatta is a fantastic mangment layer on top of Debian, OpenVPN, iptables, Quagga, Snort and OpenSWAN amongst others.

Vyatta, an open source networking software and hardware specialist, has announced the release of version 6.0 of its Linux-based router and firewall software
