If you dual (or triple, or more) boot your machine, i.e. you have many different operating systems you choose between at startup, you might have to use your bootloader fairly frequently. GRUB is a very functional boot loader and can do the job in most cases. But its default text-based view is a little visually unattractive, is it not?

While Ubuntu 9.10 is using GRUB2 by default for its boot-loader on new installations, GRUB 2.0 has actually yet to be released even after many years in development. However, on this Sunday afternoon version 2 of GNU GRUB is closer to seeing the light of day...

Starting with Ubuntu Karmic, Grub2 is used (for clean installs for now), so THIS how-to on recovering the GRUB no longer works for the new GRUB2.
