First lets start off by saying that I'm not a giant theme and customization guy. I do tweak the GUI a little bit here and there but I leave most of it up to the theme creator.

Bisgi themes just won't stop improving. They stunned everyone before with their incredible collection of themes downloadable via bisigi PPA. Now a new theme called ECO is released which for me is the best so far. Another important USP of Bisigi themes is that, they include everything. From login window theme, to icon theme to metacity theme to everything else.

François Vogelweith is the author of zgegblog, a site that maintains a collection of great GNOME themes. Balanzan (translated: Balance) is one of its most popular creations, a very comprehensive theme based on Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope, which contains a wallpaper, logon theme, Emerald theme, controls and icons.

Changing the loging screen theme in ubuntu is not a difficult matter, what we need is a GDM themes that we can find thousends of them aroud the net...

As some people like dark themes and some people like bright themes, why not combine them into one set of matching themes with different shades? This is an idea for a Metacity theme that is based on the idea of having the sun shine into your windows.

It looks like there's a new package in Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope named gnome-themes-ubuntu, which contains three of the most popular, community created GNOME themes: Dust, Dust Sand and New Wave. This new package will be present in Ubuntu 9.04. Here are some screenshots of these new themes:

Yin and Yang - Dark and Bright … My idea is that many peoples loves dark- or bright-themes … or they like to switch sometimes, depending the wallpaper they use. The Theme is adjusted to the Humanity-Icons and pointed to be a simple EyeCandy-theme. The used engine is murrine.
