Eric S Raymond, one of the leaders of the Open Source world and the author of Cathedral in Bazaar has come out to defend Richard M Stallman, the father of Free Software movement who was misquoted by the press.

In his seminal essay on the nature of open source, entitled “The Cathedral and the Bazaar,” Eric Raymond described the Linux community as a “great babbling bazaar of differing agendas.” This work contributed to the present situation in which OSS has lost its edginess and is now commonly accepted by even conservative companies.

Observation of the trends in many HIT OSS projects leads me to believe that our niche in the OSS world prefers the Cathedral model (Eric S. Raymond's definition) rather than the Baazar model.

KDE on Windows is such a subversive project that it is impossible to resist. Who else except the free and open source software (FOSS) community would take a desktop for Unix-like systems and port it to Windows, co-opting the very operating system that community members love to hate?

If you ask me who's the proudest hacker in the world, I would say that it's Eric S. Raymond. ESR, as he is often called, is a computer programmer and open source software evangelist. He is also a well-known author and has been very influential in giving the term 'hacker' a positive image.
