9 months since the release of antiX-M8.2, the antiX-team announce that antiX MEPIS 8.5 'Marek Edelman' - a fast, light, flexible and complete desktop and livecd based on SimplyMEPIS and Debian Testing - is now available.

The antiX-team is proud to announce that an updated antiX MEPIS 8.2 Final is available at MEPIS mirrors in the testing directory and the released/antix directory.

For those of you who don't know, antiX MEPIS is the resource-friendly version of SimplyMEPIS, a great Linux distribution based on the even greater Debian. With a bit of extrapolation, it's obvious that antiX is built upon Debian.

The team behind the AntiX project recently announced, on July 24th, the final release of AntiX MEPIS 8.2, a fast and lightweight Linux distribution based on SimplyMEPIS and Debian Testing, including some features of sidux as well.

I've been a fan of SimplyMEPIS for years. The distribution was one of the early pioneers in the field of user-friendly Linux development, and to this day offers a system that usually "just works." Earlier this month the MEPIS site announced a community variation for older computers based on SimplyMEPIS.

The Debian project has packaged and produced some really great software and the latest project, code named "Lenny" has resulted in a couple of really outstanding derivatives, AntiX and its parent SimplyMEPIS. In addition, the Debian project "Sid", has led to the creation of an awesome cutting edge system called sidux.

MEPIS on July 9 announced the "Spartacus" release of antiX, a community-built, ultralight derivative of the MEPIS Linux distribution. AntiX (pronounced "Antics") is the personal project of MEPIS community member "anticapitalista," who engineered it as a free version of MEPIS aimed at old 32-bit PC hardware.

MEPIS said today that the release candidate of a community-built "ultra-lite" derivative of its own GNU/Linux distribution is ready for testing.
